I'm nearing the end of my Whole 30 adventure and I want to wrap it all up in a nice bundle for you.
Do I think eating healthy is important? - ABSOLUTELY!
Will I continue to go above and beyond to avoid added sugar (and other things described by Whole 30)? - Nah
Let me explain. As I said earlier, I never ate poorly. I occasionally spoiled myself with fast food or a bowl of ice cream. But I was constantly eating fruits and veggies, other fresh ingredients, and never had much of a sweet tooth. Over the past few weeks I was hoping I was going to feel like a new man, but in reality I didn't feel much different. One reason for this could have been my lifestyle though. Around the time I started the Whole 30 plan I started coaching outside in the blistering sun for up to 6 hours a day. No amount of fresh ingredients can make you not feel exhausted after that.
So while I won't be sticking to the Whole 30 plan on the dot, I will definitely be carrying over some great recipes and techniques I learned. For example:
Cast iron skillets are the bees knees for cooking meat
Zoodles are actually better tasting than most pastas I've had
Homemade sauces are way tastier than store bought (also I won't buy a giant bottle of it just to slowly turn bad after sitting in my fridge for 3 years)
Do you remember that rutuabaga I bought that I had no idea what it was? Yeah, that's a normal purchase for me now
I'm also convinced to build a small herb garden because nothing spices up a fresh dish more than homegrown herbs
So my final thoughts are this. If you have an unhealthy relationship with food, fix it. If you have a sweet tooth, learn to control it. If you're not getting enough protein, vitamins and minerals in your diet, change your diet. Supplements should not be a main course. Develop a healthy relationship with food and make good nutrition habits. Your body, your brain, and your life will thank you for it.
If you feel like you do have a healthy relationship with food, I challenge you to back that up! Try to eat healthier, find an area that you could do better in. See if you really do have as great of a relationship with food as you think. Worst case?! you'll feel the same as you do now. Best case?! You'll realize you've been making small mistakes your whole life.
