Endless Opportunities in Endless Pools

The blog hiatus has been broken! And more importantly, the halt on swim training sessions has lifted!
I am incredibly excited to announce that Excel is now offering Swim Training sessions that utilize Endless Pools. It has been a two-year journey to secure an Endless Pool and I cannot wait to get started. This new service will be held at Indoorance Athletic Club. For information on this new business, and pictures of the amazing facility, scroll towards the end of this blog.
A question for you all. How many times have you heard your coach say, "are you ever going to stop crossing over on your pull?" And your answer is probably something like, "I didn't think I was crossing over!" But then your coach pulls their phone out to get a video of your stroke and yikes, that is one mean crossover. It gets annoying, right?!
One of the most difficult parts of swim training is the difficulty to get immediate feedback on technique. And when I say immediate, I mean IMMEDIATE. Not that your coach says something as soon as you finish your set, but more that while you are bending your elbow to get your catch, you get the feedback that you're crossing over.
Most other sports you can do in front of a mirror or in front of a live feed video camera to get that immediate feedback. But swimming brings difficulties in the inability to do stationary, and of course the harsh relationship between electronics and water.
This is where the Endless Pool comes to be invaluable. Endless Pools work by pushing water towards an athlete at a rate that matches up to a 51-second 100-yard swim. The athlete is able to swim while not moving, much like a runner on a treadmill. Mirrors line the bottom of the tank both flat and at an angle so the athlete can watch their movements as they happen. You won't believe how beneficial this is until you try it. Not only will you be able to see that yes, you are actually still crossing over, but you'll also be able to feel what it's like to do it right. That way next time you're at practice you can know you're doing it right by the way it feels.
First, look at the view you get of yourself while swimming in an Endless Pool, pretty cool right?!? Then, compare the two videos. Can you pick out which one has a cross-over that can be fixed? (Hint: this should be easy to tell, because that's how cool watching your stroke in real time is!)
Indoorance's Endless Pools also have two mobile underwater cameras to catch even more angles, and televisions mounted above the tank to analyze the footage right away. And don't forget the bone conduction headphones so while your head is underwater, I give more feedback while you're swimming! Because who hasn't wanted to be able to hear their coach while they are swimming?!
I cannot speak highly enough about this tool. I promise you will be amazed and pleasantly surprised how cool and beneficial it is after the first 5 minutes you're in it. To experience the only Endless Pool in the area available to the public, be sure to book an Endless Pool Swim Training session!
