Boxing is Back, Baby!

After many test sessions I am incredibly pumped to announce that Excel is now offering Boxing Sessions!

Boxing is an incredible cross-training sport for swimming. It builds strength, power, speed, coordination and conditioning as a full-body explosive and non-stop activity.

It might be hard at first to see the similarities between swimming and boxing, but by looking at the basics of each sport, it becomes quite clear. Boxing is centered around quick feet, fast hands, and connecting the entire body by engaging the core over an extended period of time. Sounds a lot like swimming, doesn't it? But of course there are extra benefits of boxing which include reactionary movements and of course, hitting something! A great way to relieve stress.

I've had over 10 years of martial arts and boxing experience both as a student, by achieving my third degree black belt, and as a lead instructor. The boxing workouts I create build upon themselves. They start with simple movements, punches, blocking and dodging and eventually evolve into full combinations. And of course, because this is a swim-specific performance company, there will be swim-specific components as well (like adding in additional strength pieces that compliment swim movements).

All Boxing Sessions include shadow boxing (pretending a target is in front of you but making no contact with anything) and hand mitt boxing (where I wear targets on my hands that the athlete must react to by either hitting, blocking or dodging). Gloves are provided for athletes to protect the hand and wrists when hitting the hand mitts.

Let me make this perfectly clear for everyone...There is no contact or one-on-one fighting! This is a safe way to teach boxing basics and build athletic ability to enhance swimming performance. I take this type of training very seriously and will continually explain that the skills taught during these sessions WILL NOT be used outside of the gym with me. I am never interested in working with, or raising, bullies.

These 60-minute sessions are available to book now! If you have a family member or teammate that would like to join you on this fun journey, contact me! But please know that all Boxing Sessions have a max of two athletes at a time (because of safety reasons and amount of equipment available).
