Hello Excelers!
As an ever-searching journey to make it easier for you to Exceed Your Potential, I am revamping the Blog! Each blog will now be categorized. You will now be able to sort all of my blogs by category to easily find what you’re looking for.
I am also introducing a new type of Blog I call, “Bullet Blogs.” There is so much information out there related to performance that you can spend countless hours combing through it to find helpful information. So, let me do that work for you. I spend a lot of my time listening to podcasts, reading books and articles, watching videos, etc. Whenever I come across some new or interesting information, I will present it in bullet format, short and sweet, and I will give my “two cents” about the topic and how it relates to swimming. I will also include the source in case you are interested in researching it further.
As an example, I will use the book that gave me the idea and motivation to create the Excel Swim Performance business, You are a Badass, by Jen Sincero (pardon my French).

· Source energy is everywhere, around you and in you
· Emitted energy attracts similar energy – the Law of Attraction
o Focus on what makes you feel good, and you will attract that
· “If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”
· Surround yourself with people who are like what you want to be
· Love yourself – talk yourself up, do what you love, don’t compare yourself to others, replace depreciating humor
· Stop caring so much about what others think, but note constructive criticism and feedback
· Meditate – it connects you to source energy
· Thoughts are your strongest tool, learn to control them (be positive)
· Do your best and always have fun
· Give to others and accept when others give to you
· “Gratitude is the gateway drug to awesomeness”
· Forgive – “forgiveness is about taking care of yourself, not the person you are forgiving”
· Time management – have respect for time, “don’t expect it to show up if you treat it like crap”
· Focus on what you enjoy, not how busy you are
· Fear lives in the future – fear exists, but is also made up because it hasn’t even happened yet
o Be in the moment
· Learn to be decisive
· “Understand that everything you want, already exists. You just need to go get it”
· “Our thoughts become our words, our words become our beliefs, our beliefs become our actions, our actions become our habits, and our habits become our realities.”
· “The only failure is quitting. Everything else is just gathering information.”
My Two Cents:
Obviously, I am biased at how awesome this book is because without it I wouldn’t have started Excel and writing this blog. Most of what Jen speaks of is believing in yourself, telling yourself you believe in yourself, and allowing yourself to achieve what yourself wants. It seems she believes the person holding you back, is yourself. Control yourself and you can control what happens to yourself.
My favorite quote is, “Understand that everything you want, already exists. You just need to go get it.” That state cut, that national championship, that job, that grade on your exam, they already exist. You just need to be the one to go get it. If you understand that anyone can get that, and no one has laid claim to it yet, you can be in control.
Lastly, the whole book she hammers in the “love yourself” mentality, and I couldn’t agree more. If you treat yourself like the coolest, most important person in the world, you will be a better version of yourself, you will treat others better, and you and everyone around you will thrive in life.
Definitely give it a read! If you have read it, comment below and let me know your thoughts!
